WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL:

Power of Statement

Prayer is important, right? Even very important–all important many would say. Here is a real challenging statement from the Book of James:

“The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

God is saying: “You can effect a whole nation, a whole world!” Suiting action to beliefs, however, is sometimes quite difficult, frustrating, defeating! Sometime back in the effort to pray effectively, I found these thoughts swirling in my consciousness: “Why am I here? What am I doing? Is there anything to it?”

A Scripture kept coming to me at the same time, that had been there every time I would go to prayer lately:

2 Samuel 22:4
“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.”

Verse 47 from the same location:
“The LORD lives, and blessed by my Rock!”

I started repeating this out loud (and louder and louder) and received a good enablement to pray with boldness and authority! So, what happened?

Here is what I see:

I found God’s directive and purpose for me in my praying! But I had to give more mental assent to it. I had to “confess with my mouth” firmly and repeatedly. As I did so, I could sense I was laying hold of the purposes of God and defeating the purposes of Satan. It helped me. Maybe something here could help you also. Powerful praying to you!

“He can never doubt who has learned to shout.”

The quote above is from a great man of faith and answered prayer of another generation, see if it speaks to your heart!
