WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL:

What Can We Know?

The people of this world are described by Jesus as being of two different attitudes concerning world events that are coming upon them. There are those totally preoccupied with day to day events, with no thought for the future. They “know not”, are unaware of the cataclysm, of the deluge of the great catastrophe, the disaster waiting the unprepared. They will be “all taken away” into the eternal calamity coming upon the unwary, the unready.

Then Jesus talks about the fearful, those aware enough to know there is trouble, but uncertain as to details or defense. “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, for looking on the things that are coming on the earth”, is the expression used.

What then can God’s people know about the future, what should we understand?

1. Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, there you may be also. In my Father’s House are many mansions”. For the follower of Christ, towering far above the storm clouds ahead are “gates of splendor, palaces of glory.

We know not how much of the storm we may go through, but we know Jesus will go with us, and we shall “go through”, fearing no evil.

2. I believe a special word is helpful for a time such as this, Jesus said, “Ye have not because ye ask not”May we ask Him to show us what we need to know in order to be able to respond properly to the day and hour we are living in.
