WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL:

Oh!!

Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day“. In trying to get a feel for what this interjection “oh” tries to express, these words of familiar song came to mind.

One of the dictionary definitions given is “surprise”. I believe this is the context in which the expression is used repeatedly in Psalm 107.

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Psalm 107:8

So, read the Psalm, which shows the grace and goodness of God to wayward people such as we, and here comes this short but powerful interjection, “oh“!

One great part of the logic bringing forth this expression of surprise is like a big, “DUH”!

Why would not any sane rational being offer praise for all God’s goodness? Look at the long term mercies and forgiveness, the gracious intervention on behalf of those totally undeserving, when they cried for help, and on and on it goes!

Look at what happens to people when they seek God, in comparison to when they deny Him! Oh, my!! Maybe something like, “The fool has said in his heart, there is no God”, would fit in here.

Keep your eyes open and your heart in tune with the Savior,
Pastor Don Foster, Sr.
