WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL:

Fretful Saints and Fighting Stars

Two Bible passages will explain all (I hope).

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Psalm 37:1-2

Evil is rearing its head, nationally and globally. There is much to “fret” about. But don’t “fret it”, says the Eternal One. Keep on trucking in faith and good works.

From the heavens the stars fought; from their courses they fought against Sisera.
The River Kishon swept them away, the ancient river, the River Kishon.
Judges 5:20-21

The evil Sisera and his army were set to destroy God’s people. He seemed invincible. Enter Deborah and Barak. They rose up in the power of God to confront Sisera. But they were not alone. The whole of God’s universe, including the “stars from their courses” fought against Sisera. He didn’t have the remotest chance. His army was “swept away”, and he was nailed with a spike through his head to a tent floor by a woman.

The point is: The catastrophic removal of all evil and evil doers from the universe only lingers because “God is not willing that any should perish”. We must not fear evil doers, but stay true to God in faith and love. In the end we win everything.
