Formality

It’s just a formality. Ever hear that statement? Doesn’t inspire much enthusiasm, eh?

Such sends a signal that immediately triggers the idea that whatever it has no urgency, no meaning, no need to pay any attention to it.

That evidently is what God thinks of “formal” worship! Catch the flavor of what He has declared concerning this approach:

So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:16

having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Timothy 3:5

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
John 4:24

And thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mark 12:30

God apparently is not all that pleased with heartless and meaningless “formality”. Did you catch that He is “sick of it”? The call of God to us is to be “fervent in Spirit”. Go for it! You’ll be glad you did. So will He!
